Passive

The 'Passive Voice' is easier to understand when compared to 'Active Voice'

  Escribir: To write

Passive:
Active:

La carta fue escrita por Sergio.
Sergio escribió la carta.

The letter was written by Sergio.
Sergio wrote the letter.


  Querer: To want, To love

Passive:
Active:

Mi madre es querida por mis amigos.
Mis amigos quieren a mi madre.

My mother is loved by my friends.
My friends love my mother.


  Castigar: To punish

Passive:
Active:

El estudiante fue castigada por su profesora
La profesora castigó a su estudiante

The student was punished by his teacher.
The teacher punished the student.


  Destruir: To destroy

Passive:
Active:

La casa fue destruida por la lluvia
La lluvia destruyó la casa

The house was destroyed by the rain.
The rain destroyed the house.

Passive Voice
The Passive voice is formed by using the verb: ser (to be) and a Past Participle.

It must agree in gender and number with the subject: -o/-a/-os/-as.

Past Participle
To form the Past Participle, drop the infinitive ending:
-ar/-er/-ir and add:
-ado (-ar verbs)
-ido (-er/-ir verbs)
